Green-tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon alice)

Adult: Very small hummingbird that has short bill (for hummingbirds), short tail and largish head. Males are completely metallic emerald green though there is a slight bronze coloring as well to the back. Black wings. Females have metallic emerald green crown, nape, back, shoulders, rump and tail. Buff edges to crown. Buff forehead, eyebrow and cheek. Dark brown eye stripe and pale gray throat. Pale gray breast, belly and sides with sides have emerald green tint. Black legs, bill and eyes. Juvenile: Like adult female. Flight: Pointed wings and squared tail. Fast, swift, graceful flight with rapid wingbeats. Hovers while feeding. Habitat: Rain forests, cloud forests, moist montane forests and plantations. Range: Vagrant to North America, though we know not exactly where due to lack of information in records. Currently endemic only to Venezuela. Voice: Never recorded though it has been heard made a thin, high chittering while foraging. Size: 3 to 3.5 inches long. Subspecies: Monotypic. Similar Species: Blue-tailed Emerald is very similar though it has deep blue tail. Also more metallic blue-green back and rump.
